Music Review // Ava Della Pietra "Single for Life"
When I first learned that Ava Della Pietra had a song called "Single for Life" I was expecting this idea of being done with dating to be the focus of the lyrics. However, as I hear the song it in fact tells a story of two women vowing to be "Single for Life" but then one of them finds a boyfriend. This begins with the first line of the song: "9 days ago you met someone". This is how it always starts and isn't it odd when your friend is in a relationship and you are not?
The chorus takes this song into where it goes from pop hit to pop anthem. The lines: "I miss the nights we'd talk about guys / And how we're gonna both be single for life" just feels like something most people can relate with until someone starts dating again. This song also takes a turn with the verse "If I could tell you all my thoughts / You'd know he's everything I want", which is what makes the idea of this other friend dating so difficult.
Perhaps the most telling of the lyrics in this song though says "Being alone is only fun / When I'm not the only one". This shows how we all have that feeling inside of us where we don't want to be alone. Whether it is to be with your friend, who also vowed to be single with you, or whether it is with a guy, which might be the type of guy your friend finds first, the basic human element within all of this is just that no one wants to be alone.
As someone who listens to both Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan on the radio, I feel like there is definitely a place for this song to fit into the rotation. At a time when it's easy to flood the airwaves because it feels like people are looking for that next big thing along those same lines, Ava Della Pietra just proves to be one in a million with unique experiences and even a unique sound that hopefully people will resonate with and also just feel good about in the way of getting out and dancing.
