Music Review // 2LOT "Never Knew You" (The Albert Harvey Mix)

When thinking about the sound of 2LOT it's hard to imagine that they can have their songs improved upon, but with this second single off of their upcoming Albert Harvey remix EP it just might be so.   2LOT has that way where their songs are about what the title says, so this is a song about never really knowing someone who you thought you knew.  This has likely happened to all of us at some point in our lives and now instead of getting upset we can dance about it.

As "Never Knew You" already had those dance beats, this mix by Albert Harvey just seems to have punched that up a bit.  The beats go faster, but you can still dance with them-- you're just going to be dancing harder now.  At times it can feel steady, but it also can just break down to where if you are dancing with it you're going to have to try and keep up.

My favorite part about this mix is that while the music intensifies it also seems to better highlight the message of the song.   There are times when there are vocals and the music can feel like it's dialing it back a little bit so that you can hear what is being said, but then you've had time to process that emotion it just drops the beat hard and you can work those emotions in a musical and physical way.

Perhaps the real beauty within this mix is that, yes, at its core this can be the type of song you hear at a club while you're on the dance floor, but it can also be so much more than that.   Any time you feel like you have to power through something, like a work out or long drive, this can be the soundtrack to it.   "Never Knew You" isn't about here and now or even the past, but it's about moving on from that, going to the next step.  This music definitely sets the tone for that theme.
