Music Review // Nick Carver "Stones You Throw"

When Nick Carver begins this song, there is a strumming which makes it feel like it can be just the guitar and vocals, in that folk sort of way.  But "Stones You Throw" eventually does kick into that full band sound, which reminds me of something along the lines of Neil Young or John Mellencamp.   There is just this somewhat specific but yet fun genre of rock music which can also be people telling stories and it just isn't out there enough right now.

As this song goes on, you'll begin to pick up the pieces of what guitar-based rock music goes into all of this.  There are elements of the blues for sure, and even blue grass to that extent.  At one point there is a bridge where it breaks down into a slide guitar sound and I think that also pushes this more towards the blues side of things musically, which also just seems to so perfectly reflect the lyrics as well.

The beginning of this song and the end of this song both have Nick Carver singing: "I lost my mind when a woman didn't love me".   Lyrically this song goes into a place of rejection at the surface, but also just based on the chorus where says "I'm coming to your town" and also mentions the title it feels like one those ideas of people who live in glass houses to not throw stones.  To that end, I do feel like this song has that idea that you might not be perfect but no one is and so we all have our faults and it's about whether or not you accept someone else, faults and all.

While I feel like there is a lot of talk about deflection lately, this song isn't just about that.  It feels more like the story of a couple who fell out of love because the woman thought that the man wasn't enough.  But as time went on, the man began to realize that she wasn't enough either and so they are both better off not being together.  So if you've ever felt like someone didn't want to be with you but then realized it was for the best, this is a good song for you.
