Music Review // 2LOT "RE/SOLVE"

If you've been paying attention (and hopefully you have) you will have noticed a number of singles released prior to this new album by 2LOT.   Songs on "RE/SOLVE" should already feel familiar to you, but there is also enough on this album which will be new to you that you can take a deep dive in without coming up for air for quite some time.  The difference between having only one or two singles released prior to the album and having more than two is also one of the factors which makes it easier for this new album to already feel so familiar.

"RE/SOLVE" is the type of album which is lead by beats.  You can put it on and even if you're not paying attention, you can still hear that steady beat taking over the entire album.  This is what I like to think of as being kind of what a DJ would play in a club when everyone is dancing, but instead of having that playlist of like-minded songs, where you have to make the connection from artist to artist, you just have 2LOT making their own connections while carrying an overall theme in the music.

Sometimes these songs have singing, sometimes they don't.  "No Man's Land" is a minute long piano number to keep the flow going.  It's just fun to listen to this and hear songs I haven't heard before, but also to hear songs like "I Hurt Myself Again" and be reminded that Elise Trouw was featured on this song as well.   There are more songs though which don't have features than do and by the time you get ten songs deep or so into this album, you'll really begin to hear the songs not released as singles prior to the full album release.  That's when you can expand your mind in the best possible way.

As someone who grew up listening to the radio, I'm all in favor of the radio still existing as a concept- especially if it helps promote new artists- but with this release 2LOT really shows that you don't need a radio station to play your songs to get singles out there to promote an album.  And while I've enjoyed the individual single releases up until now, if you're just finding out about this album now I'd suggest just listening to the album from start to finish, which is something the radio can't really do for you.   How we experience music may feel like it's forever changing, but at least with a sound like this 2LOT is making it feel easy.
