Music Review // Luna Red "Heart Bass"

When you call a song "Heart Bass" it should be somewhat of a give away as to what the song will sound like.  Just putting the word "bass" in the title alone should give you that idea before you even press play.  So when I did first press play on this, it wasn't that surprising to hear the bass line start up, but it does so in such a way that it makes you want to move.  It also feels more like a throwback, musically, than anything that you might otherwise hear today.

You could likely write a book about how there was this sound captured in the 1990's that wasn't quite techno, dance or even hip hop, but it still had this sound which Luna Red has captured here.  Artists such as Gloria Estefan and C&C Music Factory come to mind in the way that they are more mainstream and you might have heard of them before, but it was just a time where you could hear music and know it was going to be special where as a lot of the similar sounds these days tends to all blend together.

What I really like about this song is that the way Luna Red both sings and also speaks during it makes you feel like you could just put it on and use that energy.   Whether you're dancing or cleaning the house, it'll motivate you.  At that same time, there is a verse in this song which says: "It's time for us to rise up" so if you do happen to pay attention to the lyrics (and I think you should always pay attention to the lyrics of songs) you might just wind up starting a revolution.

There is something about music which I can't quite explain that can bring people together and unite them in the sense that it could be a beat, as is the case here, and everyone moves to that same beat.  It's also just in the way that people can all be singing the same words together.  But when you take that sense of community within music and use it to say now that we're all on the same page let's harness this energy for the betterment of us all, well, that just makes a fun dance number become an even more fun dance anthem for the revolution.
