Music Review // bloom effect "itero"

From start to finish, Bloom Effect have this way of creating a sound which is both blissed out and dreamy.   While I feel like there are elements of shoegaze in here, there is also a sound like the 1990's era of grunge and alternative.  Artists from the modern shoegaze era such as Lava Divers, Rev Rev Rev and just a general feeling that this track would work well with both artists from The Blog That Celebrates Itself and whenthesunhits.    It just feels like that very specific time in the -gaze/dream era of music.

But I would also put this song into the type of genre where songs came from on such soundtracks as "10 Things I Hate About You".   Hearing parts of Belly, That Dog and Juliana Hatfield in here, Bloom Effect just has that melody underneath the layer of haze which can account for how this song can very much musically feel like a feverdream.  The song just takes you on this trip that you have to snap out of to come back into reality when the song is over.

At its core, "Itero" is a love song.  There is a line in here I really like that says: "Love is the truth we all pursue / It's not forsaken".  This is true because even if you don't have a romantic interest in another person for whatever reason (If you're the I'm Going To Focus On My Career type) then you most likely still have something you're passionate about and love.  So you are pursuing that truth and love of art or sports or stamp collecting.

When you get to the chorus of this song, the one thing that should stick with you is the idea of the lyrics that state: "Waiting / And it's now or never".  This adds a sort of pressure to whatever it is that you're pursuing which is based on love.  It's not that you should propose marriage after one date, but just to talk to that person you're interested in or if your passion is music, get out there and play some open mic nights.  Just whatever you want in life, as this song says, it's now or never, so just go for it.
