Music Review // The Imaginaries "Constant"

The Imaginaries have returned with a new single from their upcoming album "Fever" (due out August 22nd).  "Constant" is a slow moving song that embraces both the soft strum of the acoustic guitar and the beautiful build of the piano.  These two sounds come together completely and in such a way that they also highlight the vocals, which are mostly singular but at times can also be a duet.

In a world where it feels like the only constant is change, The Imaginaries have expressed the idea that, simply put, "Just know, I'll be your constant".   There was a time where it felt like people would graduate from school, have the same job until they retired, live in the same house and be married with children.  Now it feels like nothing is certain and everything is changing, people being forced out of homes and the job market not doing well.

Even if you might not have that dream job or perfect home, "Constant" can show how that one person in your life can be there for you.  This is explained well in the verse that says: "When the shadows make you run and hide / And you feel a little lost inside / And the storms they seem too much to bare / Call on me, I'll be right there".  This song isn't just about always being there in the past and present, but also the future.

With a somber way about it, the winding guitars in this song can remind me of artists such as Mazzy Star and Cowboy Junkies.  "Constant" is the type of song that isn't quite the ballad because it moves just a bit too fast, but it also has this deepness within the lyrics and you really need to pay attention to it.  Though a love song at heart, The Imaginaries have also created a song which reminds us there can be loyalty and faith in this world.
