Music Review // Chris Bullinger "Salvation As I Know It"
To appreciate and to understand the song "Salvation As I Know It" is to hear the next line in the song by Chris Bullinger. As the song reaches the chorus, the lines that make the title say: "Salvation as I know it is my skin on your skin". Once you hear this, the song begins to click as there are mentions of being out in the West riding a horse, tanks, missile and other obstacles which are all things worth fighting to get to that salvation.
As this song starts off with that acoustic sound it can have that country twang, like we're riding our horse along the old dusty trail. At some point during this song you can hear what sounds like a fiddle and even those saloon-style pianos, all making it feel even more like we're in the Old West. However, as we approach the lines: "I lay down my weapons when your hands caress my face" things slow down and begin to resemble Lou Reed and Bob Dylan.
"Salvation As I Know It" also comes with an animated music video which is just so great to watch. As Chris Bullinger is singing about things, they happen on the screen in an animated way. This starts with the horse but quickly turns into the tanks. During the chorus the two animated humans become one, which is nice because for a short while they can take on the shape of a heart.
While "Salvation As I Know It" feels more like a country song than anything else, it has a certain way about it that makes it not feel so much like traditional country music but more like what people think country music sounds like. Having lyrics about the lengths you'd go to for love is a lot better than what most people think country songs are about though, so this just feels like a song that might not just be for fans of country music but could really come out and captivate everyone who is in love.
