Music Review // 2ŁØT & Aloe Blacc "Immortal" (Steve Aoki Remix)
When it comes to electronic music, if you ask the majority of people out there who is one artist that they know- or if you presented them with a list of ten names the one they'd be most likely to pick out is Steve Aoki. Steve Aoki is this musician who just seems to transcend the entire genre of music itself and become somewhat more of a pop culture icon because of it (He has a Funko Pop, for example) So to have this song, "Immortal", by 2LOT & Aloe Blacc, in the hands of someone such as Steve Aoki feels like it is about to take the world on by storm.
And why shouldn't it? We are barely into 2026, but it just feels more and more like the end is drawing near. We may make it through, but that urgency of feeling like if we're going to make a move we have to make it now should just be surrounding anyone paying attention to the news. This is amplified by this song, as the music just makes you want to not only get up and move, but go outside and move as fast and as far as you can. If you're a runner, this is a great song for your running playlist.
This music video not only shows the lyrics but it has that element of the live performance and the creation of the song/remix. This is the type of energy we should all have all of our lives. Seeing scenes of Steve Aoki perform in front of a packed house just jumping around with the music makes me feel like this could be that one song which unites us all, as everyone should be able to grrove with the beats but also, and perhaps most importantly, the message.
What I love about this song is that the chorus says "Immortal till the day we die". While being immortal means not dying, I think this song is more about that idea of living life to its fullest, so that you can live as if you will never die but also at the same time you might die tomorrow. I think of characters such as Deadpool, who in his world cannot die, and though I don't think we should be putting ourselves in the same sense of danger that he does, we just need to start taking more chances, taking more risks and thus living our lives more fully.
