Music Review // Trevor Kidd "Clearer in the Mirror"

When this song first begins there is a certain way about the guitar patterns which remind me of rock music that I've heard before.  On one hand, you can take this slightly back in time, to where it could like a band such as Seether. I remember when Seether first came out they got comparisons with Nirvana and everyone seems to be trying to find that next Nirvana, but within this sound of Trevor Kidd I can also hear some Stone Temple Pilots, going further back, from their "No. 4" album as well.  It's that rock which feels somewhere between grunge and metal.

If hearing a sound that doesn't get talked about enough doesn't do it for you, then you can also respect that this song is going to get stuck in your head because that is just how the chorus is.  There are also bits of more complex rock in here, which make it feel like something more than just the tradtional guitar-based sound you can think of in previous ways.  It feels like taking that idea of what you know about those other bands and then expanding upon it, which is also part of what makes the sound feel modern.

While you might not right away understand what it means for things to be "Clearer in the Mirror", it has to do with that self reflection and just being able to see things as they truly are.  I think a lot of times we post our lives through social media in a way which isn't consistent with who we really are and what we're really going through.  But I also feel like we wear those same masks at times when around other people, so as to fit in or perhaps just to not seem like a bother.

Many of the lyrics within this song seem to work to tell a story, but I particularly enjoy the lyric:"If I could be consistent I would have a good life".  This talks about how sometimes you struggle to do things and other times when you do them your best it just is with such ease.   I wish we could get to that point where we're able to do that which we do best, but I also think a lot of finding out what that is and working towards it comes with that idea of looking in the mirror and seeing who we really are.
