Music Review // Rose Morrison "The River She Knows"

 

Rose Morrison has created a slow and acoustic sound with this song "The River She Knows" and as the title suggests the music itself even feels like it's in touch with nature.   I've seen artists put minimal effort (no effort) into making a music video, but the way that this entire music video is just Rose Morrison standing in front of a river with the trees as a back drop, singing this song just makes perfect sense.

The simplicity in this song can be found in the music video.  The ties to nature can also be felt through both.  But perhaps most importantly, you can see the face of Rose Morrison change throughout the song.   You can see her smile, you can feel every little nuance about the lyrics.  And, well, it is all taking place in front of a river, which is in the title of the song so it makes sense and just all works together so perfectly.

What I like about this song is that lyrically it is about a river in the sense that the river, as the song says, "she flows".   Lines like "Take a look what you have / It can't all be bad" show that this song is about going through hardships but also enduring them.  Perhaps the most telling line is "It all changes with time" and as the river flows, life changes too-- life goes on.

From musical stylings similar to Abigail Lapell and Rosanne Cash to a music video that just s completely and simply compliments the song, this is a nice reminder that hard times don't last but people do.   If you're currently going through it, just put on this song and take some comfort in knowing it won't be this way forever.
