Music Review // Parade "Lullabies After Storms and Floods"

This song by Parade has two different sides to it.   During the verses, there are spoken words with these pleasant tones and big ringing bass.   It feels somewhat like an electronic synth song in the verses and as it goes on and it can get even more complex.  But during the chorus the percussion kicks in, with cymbals and just being fast paced, and there is also some grand singing.

I definitely enjoy that this song takes these two different shapes, as it makes it feel special but just hearing one of the two aspects of it even isn't something you can quite compare with another artist.   At times it reminds me of the band Thursday but it can also remind me of Xena Glas and just neither of those are direct comparisons though.   Parade has just found a way to cross the line between that Rush and post hardcore feel and it just works so well.

One of the biggest pieces of this song which simply cannot go understated is during the second verse when there is this ambient drone of tone going on behind it all.   The cymbals come in and they're kind of being tapped.  If you've ever lived somewhere with a tin roof and heard hard rain fall on it, there are similarities (as you would imagine) but there is also just a less metal feel to this and an overall feeling of rain to it in a natural state that I am fascinated by.

At one point the spoken word lyrics ask: "Did it hurt worse than it used to?"   There are different lines in this song which bring out the idea behind it, but I feel like even if you don't want to go into the eye of the storm, you should still be listening to this song for the way it switches up styles seemingly at the flip of a switch.   Both of the sounds are excellent and they just work so well together.
