Music Review // The Motion Epic "Heartbreakers"
Often times I feel like unless you were alive in the 1980's and early 1990's, experiencing the events in real time, you don't quite fully understand it. As soon as this song comes on I am immediately transported back to that time in my life, back when I was much younger than I am now, and I just imagine all of the lore around this song.
First off, this song would definitely be based around a film that had a VHS release. The soundtrack would be on cassette as well. What it would be about exactly, I don't know, but for whatever reason I get strong "Goonies" vibes with this as well. It's just a lot of energy, that synth from the time and even a saxophone solo.
There is also a bit of Phil Collins within this sound, which reminds me of the "Tarzan" film by Disney, and that almost puts me down this path where I feel like this could either be a song for an animated Disney film (perhaps some kids are trying to break up their dad and his new girlfriend so he can get back together with their mom) or even some sort of series as I feel this "Rescue Rangers" vibe as well.
Whether anything I've said about this song being from a time when you had to pump up your sneakers, fanny packs were cool and so were windbreakers, the fact is that this is just an overall fun song. You just don't hear modern songs capture this nostalgia so perfectly, but I do enjoy that The Motion Epic has done it and done it so well.
