Music Review // Emily Millard "When You Unfold Your Love"

 

"When You Unfold Your Love" begins with these Phil Collins type of percussion beats and it just feels mellow.  There is a smooth and flowing way about this song that cannot be described and can only be heard.  As the music goes on, it kicks in to where it feels even more dreamy.  There aren't a lot of musical comparisons which can be made within here, but Emily Millard does have those strong R&B influences like Sade.

Emily Millard also tells a story within these lyrics.   The first line is "There you were like a lucky four leaf clover" and the song goes on to describe how they met but she feels like she is lucky to have him.  The lines: "you're one in a million, I'm learning" show this.   This song can also get a bit sensual with the lines "It's a silent conversation we are having skin to skin".

This feels like a very specific time in a relationship- the beginning of it when everything just feels so fresh and new.   Yes, you're discovering new things about each other all the time, but at this stage you enjoy that.  It isn't until months or years in that you begin to discover the things which you don't like about each other.

Showcasing that true musical talent and diversity, "When You Unfold Your Love" ends there is this distorted guitar part that kind of drives it out.   This didn't need to be at the end of this song, but by having it there Emily Millard shows that this song is more than just one dimensional.  This show transcends genre.   This song is a romantic ballad for those who are in the early stages of feeling love.
