Music Review // This Mad Desire & Da Fingaz "Ready For The Weekend"

 

Somewhere along the line the jobs that our parents and grandparents had which were thought of as "9-5" changed because now people work from 6am until 6pm, get two hours unpaid for lunch and still make barely enough to survive.   But when you mention a "9-5 job", people will understand what you mean even if you're not working those actual hours.   This song plays into that concept as it follows the idea that we work Monday-Friday and have weekends off.

With a funky groove of rock and the soul of the horns coming through, the sound on this song is rather infectious.   Even just listening to this through for the first time you'll be able to sing along with the chorus line that asks "Are you ready for the weekend".   And if you played this song for 9-5 workers on any day of the week, they would most likely respond to that question with a "yes" and be quite pleased that someone else is looking forward to the weekend.

During this music video you'll see AI type faces and shapes.   At the beginning there are these carnival workers and as we zoom in they change faces.  I just like to think about this as representing the various people who have worked in the same role over the course of time.  Maybe over fifty or a hundred years, the people are replaced so the faces change.  And that's the whole point of a 9-5 job as well- they'll replace you without a second thought if they feel like they have to.

While I don't feel like you need to work a 9-5 job in order to enjoy this anthem of a song, I do feel like whatever your work schedule is you'll be able to appreciate that the working class of the United States is working for a common goal and that is to have time for themselves and not making money for someone else.   This might inadvertently strike up some deeper thoughts in the working class, but overall it's just a lot of fun to listen to especially on a Friday.
