Music Review // Ryan Wayne "Ready My Love"
When I listen to "Ready My Love" by Ryan Wayne I hear many influences from artists of the 1990s, some of them forgotten names. From Matthew Sweet to Fountains of Wayne, Ryan Wayne has a unique mix of rock with hints of Americana and folk, which almost takes this to a country sound but doesn't quite.
The way that this song tells a story with the lyrics also makes me think of a band such as Soul Asylum, who are among the all-time greats. The song itself has a lyrical content that I'm not sure any song has touched on before and at the very least it's something we need more of in music. The idea of being "Ready My Love" is that acceptance of growing up and settling down with one person.
In societal norms it feels as if women grow up prepared for their wedding day since birth. Women just seem to want to get married, according to society, and so for a woman to say that she's ready to settle down and have a family- it doesn't have as strong of an impact because society generalizations over the years have lead us to believe that is common place (it actually is not, there are women who don't want to get married and have kids)
So to think of this song from that male perspective of ready to be married or whether you just think of him as ready to be that man in some other way (Perhaps stepping up as a father, uncle, brother, co-worker, etc) this song has a nice sound and it should just be heard by more people for a different perspective.
