Music Review // Billie Zizi "Levitate"

Billie Zizi begins this song with those bluesy rock guitar chords and this just kicks into a rock masterpiece.   It's difficult to compare this with other artists, but it has a strong force behind it so I'm sure as soon as anyone else hears it they will be drawn to it.   That seduction by guitar can be a powerful thing and I think Billie Zizi has found a way to capture it here.

These lyrics feel like you could be in a state of drugs or unrest.   The idea of "The fog was victorious over my sanity" and "Levitate away and I feel free" makes it feel like one might either be experimenting with drugs or having a mental breakdown (perhaps both).   This is further thought by the second verse "they shipped me off to a hospital in a small town" and that usually happens in one of those situations.

Whether or not you've ever done drugs or had a mental breakdown, the fact remains that there is something pure and innocent within this song.   The idea that you just get caught up in something and let it consume you.   Yes, "the fog" in this song could be something negative that blurs your vision and isn't good for you.   But at the same time, this could be a love song and just someone getting caught up in love.

Many times I feel like lyrics are either specific to the point where their meaning is very straight forward or the lyrics are so vague you can't really make sense of them.   With Billie Zizi, these lyrics are somewhere in between in the sense that you can have different interpretations of them depending upon how you've lived your life.  Someone who has never been in a psychiatric hospital, for example, might not even think of this song in that way.   But that ability to choose your own meaning really makes this special.
