Music Review // Robert Jon & The Wreck "Down No More"
With some folk sounds like John Mellencamp, Robert Jon & The Wreck bring out the song "Down No More" with that Southern rock n roll, blues and a little bit of gospel that has become their sound that we all know and love. This is just that slow moving type of song for sunny days and it's also a song about rising up and overcoming, so it has this victorious feeling about it all as well- such as you would get from being in the dark and now seeing the light.
One of the biggest lyrics in this song that just speaks volumes is: "Trying to find my way back / to that man I used to know". Isn't it funny how when we feel like we're down, it's because at one point in our life we were higher and so we want to get back up to that point. That's really one of the most important things to remember when you're down: You only feel down because you've been up. And if you've been up before, you can be up again.
The chorus brings in the title with the mantra-like lines: "I've been down / but I ain't down no more" This certainly feels like something where if you say it enough, even if it's just by singing this song over and over, eventually your mindset will shift and you'll no longer feel like you're down. Robert Jon & The Wreck have truly created this anthem about overcoming and I hope everyone takes it to heart.
Life is full of ups and downs. Sometimes you're on top, sometimes you're not. But a lot of life is knowing that even though you might be down now, it won't be that way forever and you will get back up some day. Whether you're currently down and need the inspiration or have just been down at some point in your life- and I think it's safe to say that we all have- then this song should be relatable and a pleasant experience for your ears.
