Ava Della Pietra
"i've been thinking"

One thing people never seem to talk about in life when you're younger is that making friends becomes more difficult the older that you get.   Throughout your life, people are going to come into it, but you're going to graduate, change jobs or move and those people are going to slowly drift out of your life.  Ava Della Pietra has created a powerful message on the song "i've been thinking" about wishing some of those childhood friendships had lasted and it can not only be related to but should be thought of as a guide for the youth of today.

While there are a number of reasons people can lose touch over the years, Ava Della Pietra does an excellent job during this job of describing how neither party is really at fault and it just seems like something that happens.   This song really does make me think about all of the people I've known throughout my life, where they are now and how they're doing and what would have happened if we had stayed closer.

With the sound of pop but with acoustics, Ava Della Pietra brings out some Lana Del Rey and even a softer sounding No Doubt.  This song just blends in so well with not only pop radio but what is on the modern rock stations and that crossover should always be celebrated.  The tone is friendly, and though it can feel a little bit sad because that is the nature of the lyrics it doesn't feel too sad which is appreciated.

One of my favorite lines which does repeat during this song is: "And I know that we were kids but maybe I should've kept in touch"  It's strange how something in your life changes and you lose people for it.  I wish they had taught us in kindergarten to hold onto these friends forever because it gets more difficult as you get older to find someone who can say they knew you way back when.   For me, it's too late- I'm too old- but hopefully this song can be used to influence those now who can still gain from its knowledge.
